Step 3: Next Generation

We are very keen that local projects will ensure a lasting legacy by encouraging more women to get involved in civic life and community leadership. This is step 3, in Phase 2, 2018 of the project.

Phase 2: Legacy, building on the inspiration of the suffrage pioneers2018

Some ideas:
Perhaps your local council (its Mayor or Leader) could host an event to use the inspiration of the nominee to encourage new candidates in local government elections, especially young women.

Perhaps community organisations such as the Women’s Institute could work with others in the community to seek out, encourage and support a new generation of civic leaders and volunteers to come forward.

The toolkit on this website will give you some ideas on how to develop a local legacy of citizenship, inspired by your local pioneer.

When you have identified one or more representatives of the next generation who have been inspired by your nomination to get more involved in civic life or the community, or have decided to vote for the first time because of finding out about the suffrage pioneers, please send details with their consent to:

Email: wlgs2018@gmail.com

or,

Post the information to 'Suffrage Pioneers: Next Generation', c/o Cllr Mrs Lesley Clarke OBE, Chair, Women’s Local Government Society, Brook Lodge, Ford Street, High Wycombe HP11 1RU.

We will use the examples on the website in order to encourage others of the next generation to get involved.
